Campaign for Real Aires UK - CAMpRA

Two years ago, I approached DDDC and Derbyshire County Council regarding the imminent installation of additional height barriers in Matlock. Almost all car parks in Matlock and Matlock Bath now have barriers, installed in response to the long-term and ongoing problem with illegal traveller encampments. It's costing the council thousands in court costs to evict them time and again, as well as clean-up costs. This means, however, that it's not possible to use these car parks for daytime parking, let alone overnight.
I attempted to get the authorities interested in the benefits of motorhome tourism, with no success.
We now have a new administration in the district council (no Tory majority for the first time in decades), so I thought I'd try again. There is again a traveller encampment on one of the car parks, despite the barriers, so I thought it might be appropriate to question the efficacy of this approach and again raise the subject of the benefits of motorhome tourism. I have had a response from one councillor that I contacted, which was lukewarm to dismissive.

Has anyone else in Derbyshire attempted to approach the council? What was the response?
do you feel inclined to team up and try again?

I'll keep plugging away, but it's difficult to get anyone to even spend the time to talk about it.

This is happening all over the country.
It should not effect the establishment of Aires, as you said barriers do not stop them and they park anywhere irregardless if it is a waste piece of ground, car park or Aire.

I would like to see the group get together on this and fight on.

I've written again, to three councillors, using the recently published template. I wrote to the head of Derbyshire Dales District Council, my local DDDC councillor, who is also the council's representative for Visit Peak District and Derbyshire, and my other local councillor who is on the DDDC car parks working group.
Email sent on 28th November. No acknowledgement or response so far.

Phone calls next, perhaps?

Do the councillors have a facebook page?

A polite question as to how you can get a response from your emails to them ?

Yes they do have their own Facebook and You Tube
There is also a Derbyshire traffic and travel group that I have just found

I will be following it and testing the water on the group in the next few weeks
